Selling and invoicing

Pricing Rule

An automatic discount or special price triggered by customer, group, item, quantity or date. No ledger effect; it only changes line rates.

In detail

A Pricing Rule changes the rate or applies a discount on a document line automatically when its conditions match: a customer, customer group, territory, item, item group, brand, minimum quantity or amount, and a date range. It posts nothing; it only changes what goes into the rate and discount columns before the document is saved, so the income and VAT that later post are simply computed on the discounted amount. Rules have priorities so a customer-specific rule can beat a general one, and a rule can also give a free item. Test a new rule on a draft invoice before relying on it, because a rule with loose conditions can silently discount every sale.

Formula

Discounted rate = Price list rate x (1 - Discount %); Rs 32,000 x (1 - 10%) = Rs 28,800

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Selling > Pricing Rule > New.
  2. 02Choose Apply On Item, Item Group or Brand and add the rows it applies to.
  3. 03Set Applicable For, for example Customer Jivan Dahal, and any Min Qty or Min Amount.
  4. 04Set the valid dates, choose Rate or Discount Percentage, enter 10, and Save.
  5. 05Open a draft Sales Invoice for that customer; the line rate drops to Rs 28,800 on its own.

When to use it

Create under Selling > Pricing Rule; it applies when you add items to Quotations, Orders and Invoices.

Example from the demo books

Give Jivan Dahal 10% off any package, so a Rs 32,000 line becomes Rs 28,800 automatically.
