POS Opening Entry

Opens a cashier shift by recording the opening cash in each mode of payment. No ledger effect.

In detail

A POS Opening Entry starts a cashier's shift. It records the user, the POS Profile and the opening amount in each mode of payment, usually the cash float in the drawer, so that the closing count can be compared with what should be there. It posts nothing and moves no stock; the float was already in the cash account. Every POS Invoice of the shift is linked to this opening entry, and the matching POS Closing Entry cannot be made without it. One opening per user per shift is the rule; if a cashier opens twice the second shift will show the float twice and the closing will look short.

Formula

Expected closing cash = Opening amount + Cash sales of the shift - Cash refunds

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Open the Point of Sale screen; it asks for the POS Profile and the opening amounts.
  2. 02Pick the profile and enter the float in each mode of payment, for example Rs 5,000 in Cash.
  3. 03Click Submit; the POS Opening Entry is created and the sales screen opens.
  4. 04Open Invoicing > POS Opening Entry later to see the shift status, Open or Closed.

When to use it

Created when a cashier opens the POS screen; one per shift and user.
