Stock and Account Value Comparison
Compares stock value in Stock Ledger Entry with the balance of the stock account in GL Entry per warehouse.
In detail
Stock and Account Value Comparison puts the two records of stock side by side: the stock value in the Stock Ledger Entry rows for each warehouse, and the balance of that warehouse's stock account, Stock In Hand, in GL Entry. In a healthy book they are equal to the paisa, because every stock voucher writes both. A difference means somebody posted a Journal Entry directly to Stock In Hand, a repost changed valuation without updating the ledger, or a backdated entry drifted the two apart. The demo shows the stock ledger at Rs 4,50,000 and the stock account at Rs 4,50,000, difference zero. Run it at every month end before the Balance Sheet is trusted.
Formula
Per warehouse: Sum of stock value difference in Stock Ledger Entry - (Debit - Credit) on the stock account in GL Entry = 0
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Financial Reports > Stock and Account Value Comparison.
- 02Set Company, As On Date and optionally one Account (Stock In Hand) or Warehouse.
- 03Read Stock Value, Account Value and Difference per warehouse; zero everywhere is the goal.
- 04For a difference, open the General Ledger on Stock In Hand and look for Journal Entries, which should not be there.
- 05Reverse any manual Journal Entry to the stock account and post the correction through a Stock Reconciliation instead.
- 06If no manual entry explains it, run Incorrect Stock Value Report to find the voucher, then Repost Item Valuation.
- 07Rerun until the difference is zero.
When to use it
Run at month end; any difference means stock and accounts have drifted apart.
Example from the demo books
Stock ledger Rs 4,50,000 and stock account Rs 4,50,000 gives zero difference.
