Item Where Used

Which Bills of Materials and products use a given item or raw material.

In detail

Item Where Used lists the Bills of Materials in which a chosen item appears as a raw material or sub assembly, with the parent item, BOM number, quantity used per unit and whether the BOM is active and default. It reads the BOM Item table. The question it answers is what breaks if this component changes: before discontinuing a packaging item, switching supplier for a part or raising a component's price, see which finished products it goes into and therefore whose cost and margin will move. It is only meaningful if you maintain BOMs; a pure trading company will see an empty list.

Formula

Rows = BOMs containing the item; qty per unit of parent = BOM item qty / BOM quantity

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Stock > Item Where Used.
  2. 02Pick the Item code of the component.
  3. 03Read the parent Item, BOM number, Qty per unit, and the Is Active and Is Default flags.
  4. 04Open the BOM to see the full recipe and its cost.
  5. 05Update or replace the component in those BOMs before changing the item.

When to use it

Open before discontinuing a component to see what it affects.
