Warehouse

A place where stock is kept, as a tree. Each warehouse posts to a Stock account, its own or the company default, so stock value appears in the Balance Sheet.

In detail

A Warehouse is any place stock is kept: a godown, a shop counter, a vehicle or a subcontractor's floor. It is the bridge between quantities and money, because every warehouse maps to an account of type Stock, its own or the company default Stock In Hand - YFF, and each stock movement into or out of the warehouse debits or credits that account. Warehouses form a tree under All Warehouses - YFF; only leaf warehouses hold stock, groups just add up their children. Reports like Stock Balance and Warehouse Wise Stock Balance read this tree. If a warehouse points at the wrong account, the Balance Sheet inventory line and the Stock and Account Value Comparison report go out of step.

Formula

Warehouse stock value = sum over items of actual qty x valuation rate, which equals the Stock account balance

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Stock > Warehouse > New.
  2. 02Type the name; the company abbreviation YFF is appended automatically.
  3. 03Pick the Parent Warehouse, usually All Warehouses - YFF, and a Warehouse Type if needed.
  4. 04Leave Account blank to use Stock In Hand - YFF, or pick a dedicated Stock account.
  5. 05Save. Set it as Default Warehouse on Items or choose it on each stock document.
  6. 06Open Stock Balance filtered by this warehouse to read what it holds.

When to use it

Create under Stock > Warehouse; every stock movement names a source or target warehouse.
