UOM Category
Groups units of the same kind, like Weight or Length, for conversions. No ledger effect.
In detail
A UOM Category groups units that measure the same thing, such as Weight (Kg, Gram, Tonne), Length (Metre, Cm) or Volume (Litre, Ml), so the system knows which conversions make sense and can refuse nonsense like converting Kg to Metre. The categories and their standard factors are preinstalled; you add a category only for something unusual such as a local measure. The category is used when an item's UOM Conversion table is filled from the global factors and in the Quality Inspection and manufacturing modules. It never changes quantities or accounts by itself; the factors do that.
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Stock > UOM Category and open the list to see Weight, Length, Volume and others.
- 02Click New only if you need a category that is missing.
- 03Type the category name and save.
- 04Go to Stock > UOM Conversion Factor and add factors between units of the new category.
- 05Pick the units on Items; conversions now apply across documents.
When to use it
Mostly predefined; add under Stock > UOM Category.
