Item Attribute

A property like Colour or Size with its values, used to build item variants. No ledger effect.

In detail

An Item Attribute is a property such as Colour, Size or Fabric with the list of values it may take, and it exists to build item variants from a template. A T-shirt template with attributes Size (S, M, L) and Colour (Red, Blue) spawns six variant items, each with its own stock, price and barcode, while the template keeps the shared description, group and tax. Numeric attributes can carry a range and increment, such as length from 1 to 10 in steps of 0.5. The attribute never posts anything; stock and accounts belong to the variant items. Plan attributes before creating variants, because changing values later means editing every variant.

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Stock > Item Attribute > New.
  2. 02Type the attribute name, such as Size, and list its values with abbreviations.
  3. 03For numbers, tick Numeric Values and set From, To and Increment.
  4. 04Save. Open the template Item, tick Has Variants and add the attribute.
  5. 05Use Create Variants on the template to generate one Item per combination.
  6. 06Receive and sell the variants; the template itself holds no stock.

When to use it

Create under Stock > Item Attribute, then enable Has Variants on a template item.
