UOM
Also called: Unit of measure
A unit such as Nos, Kg, Litre or Hour. No ledger effect.
In detail
UOM, unit of measure, is the unit an item is counted in: Nos, Kg, Litre, Metre, Box, Hour. Every Item has one stock UOM, the unit the Stock Ledger and valuation rate use, and may list extra UOMs with conversion factors so you can buy a Box of 12 and sell single Nos. Rates on documents are per the document UOM; BRAccount converts to the stock UOM before writing the stock ledger, so a Rs 1,200 box of 12 becomes 12 Nos at Rs 100. Choosing a wrong stock UOM at the start is painful, because it cannot be changed once stock transactions exist. Nothing posts from the UOM itself.
Formula
Stock qty = document qty x conversion factor; stock rate = document rate / conversion factor
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Stock > UOM > New (most common units are preinstalled).
- 02Type the unit name and tick Must be Whole Number if fractions make no sense.
- 03Save, then open the Item and set Default Unit of Measure before any transaction.
- 04Add rows in the Item's UOM Conversion table for other buying or selling units.
- 05On a receipt or invoice, pick the UOM on the row; the stock qty converts automatically.
When to use it
Pick the stock UOM on each Item; add new units under Setup > UOM.
