Delivery Note

Also called: Challan

Records goods leaving to a customer. On submit it credits Stock and debits Cost of Goods Sold.

In detail

A Delivery Note, the challan that travels with the goods, records stock leaving to a customer and is the document that charges cost of sales. On submit it writes Stock Ledger Entries out of the source warehouse and posts Dr Cost of Goods Sold - YFF, Cr Stock In Hand - YFF at the item's valuation rate, never the selling price. The Sales Invoice created from it then books income and VAT without touching stock again. Customer returns use a Delivery Note marked Is Return, which reverses the posting. Under the Electronic Billing Procedure the invoice, not the challan, is what CBMS sees, so make sure every submitted Delivery Note is billed. Notes lock on submit.

Formula

COGS posted = sum over rows of qty delivered x valuation rate; gross margin appears when the invoice is posted
