Cashier Closing

A simple day end cash count by a cashier, listing opening, received and closing amounts. No ledger effect.

In detail

Cashier Closing is a simple end of day count for a cashier who does not use the point of sale screen: the user, the date, the opening cash, the amounts received by mode of payment, the expenses paid out, and the closing cash. It posts nothing; the sales and expenses were already recorded by their own invoices and vouchers. It is a control document that lets the owner compare the counted cash with what the ledger says the drawer should hold and sign off the shift. Most shops that use the POS should rely on the POS Closing Entry, which does the same count and also posts the consolidated invoice.

Formula

Net amount = Opening amount + Receipts - Payments out; should equal the closing cash counted

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Invoicing > Cashier Closing > New.
  2. 02Set the User and the date, and enter the Opening Amount in the drawer.
  3. 03Add the Payments table rows per Mode of Payment with the amounts collected, and any Expenses.
  4. 04Check the Net Amount against the counted cash, then Save and Submit; nothing posts.

When to use it

Create under Accounts > Cashier Closing; most users use POS Closing Entry instead. Submitted closings lock.

Example from the demo books

Cashier Ramesh closes with Rs 5,000 opening and Rs 48,000 collected.
