Budget Variance

Chart from the Budget Variance Report: budget versus actual per cost center.

In detail

This chart runs the Budget Variance Report for the fiscal year and draws budget against actual per cost center, so you spot overspending early. Marketing budget Rs 10,000 against Rs 12,500 actual shows two bars with the actual taller. Budgets are set per cost center and account in Budgeting; actuals come from GL Entry on expense accounts. Depending on the Budget's settings the system can warn or block a Purchase Order that would breach the budget, so this chart is also a control.

Formula

Per cost center = Budget amount versus Sum of GL Entry actuals on budgeted accounts, from the Budget Variance Report for the fiscal year
