Expense Breakdown

Donut of expense account balances this year, grouped by account, from GL Entry.

In detail

This donut groups GL Entry rows for the current year by expense account and shows each account's total as a slice, so it answers where the money goes: purchases, rent, salaries, depreciation. In the demo the depreciation slice grows by Rs 1,235.54 every month beside purchases and overheads. Slices are at cost, before VAT, because input VAT goes to VAT Receivable. A slice you do not recognise is usually a bill coded to the wrong account.

Formula

Each slice = Sum of (debit minus credit) on GL Entry per account under the Expenses root, current fiscal year

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Financial Reports and find the donut beside Liabilities Mix.
  2. 02Hover a slice to read the account and amount; the legend lists the top accounts.
  3. 03Use the timespan dropdown to compare this month with last quarter.
  4. 04Click the filter icon to restrict to a cost center such as Marketing - YFF.
  5. 05Click through to General Ledger for any slice that looks too large and check the bills behind it.
