Batch
A lot of an item with its own number, expiry and quantity. No ledger effect.
In detail
A Batch is a lot of an item that shares a batch number, a manufacturing date and an expiry date, such as 500 kg of tea from one estate or a carton of medicine. Items with Has Batch No ticked must name a batch on every receipt and issue through a Serial and Batch Bundle, so the Stock Ledger knows which lot moved. Valuation is per batch when the item uses moving average by batch, otherwise the item's method applies. Expired batches cannot be sold if the Item blocks it. Batches never post to the ledger themselves, but they decide which cost leaves with each sale and let a recall or an IRD query trace a lot to its supplier.
Formula
Batch balance = sum of batch qty received - sum of batch qty issued, per warehouse
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Open the Item, tick Has Batch No, and set a naming series or Create New Batch automatically.
- 02Go to Stock > Purchase Receipt > New; on the item row open the Serial and Batch Bundle.
- 03Add the batch number, expiry date and quantity, then submit the receipt.
- 04On a Delivery Note, pick the batch to issue; FIFO or expiry order is suggested.
- 05Open Batch Item Expiry Status monthly to clear lots before they expire.
When to use it
Enable Has Batch No on the Item; batches are created on receipt.
