Share Ledger

Every issue, transfer and buyback of shares in date order, from Share Transfer.

In detail

The Share Ledger is the full history of one shareholder's holding: every issue, transfer in, transfer out and buyback in date order with the share numbers involved. Where Share Balance gives the position on a date, this report explains how that position came about, which is what a lawyer, auditor or the Company Registrar asks when ownership is disputed or a company is sold. It reads submitted Share Transfer documents, so it is only complete if every change of ownership was recorded as a document rather than as a note in a file. For the demo it shows the formation issue of 25,000 shares and any later transfers.

Formula

Running balance after each row = Previous balance + Shares received - Shares transferred away

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Financial Reports > Share Ledger, or open it from the Share Management workspace.
  2. 02Set Company, the Shareholder and the Date up to which you want the history.
  3. 03Read each row: date, transfer type, from and to share numbers, quantity and amount.
  4. 04Check the closing row against the Share Balance report for the same date.
  5. 05Click a row to open the Share Transfer document and see who entered and submitted it.
  6. 06Export with Menu > Export when a shareholder or the Registrar asks for a statement.

When to use it

Open to trace how a shareholder came to hold their current shares.
