Bank Transaction Rule
Auto matches or auto creates entries for statement lines by description pattern. No ledger effect.
In detail
A Bank Transaction Rule automates the dull part of reconciliation. It watches imported Bank Transactions for a pattern in the description or amount, for example lines containing SMS CHARGE or INTEREST, and either matches them to an existing voucher or creates one: a Journal Entry to the account you name, or a Payment Entry for a party. The rule itself posts nothing; the vouchers it creates post exactly as if typed, so the figures below are the Bank Entry a charges rule produces. Write rules for lines that recur every month with the same wording and leave one off items to be matched by hand, because a loose pattern will book the wrong account silently.
Accounting entry
| Account | Debit | Credit |
|---|---|---|
| Bank Charges - YFF (Journal Entry created by the rule) | Rs 25 | |
| Bank Account - YFF | Rs 25 |
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Banking > Bank Transaction Rule > New and pick the Bank Account.
- 02Add a condition: Description contains SMS CHARGE, and optionally an amount range.
- 03Set the action: create a Journal Entry with account Bank Charges - YFF, or match to a party.
- 04Save; the next Bank Statement Import applies the rule to matching lines.
- 05Review the vouchers it created in the Bank Reconciliation Tool before closing the month.
When to use it
Create under Accounts > Bank Transaction Rule for recurring lines like charges or interest.
Example from the demo books
Lines containing SMS CHARGE create a Rs 25 Bank Charges journal automatically.
