Bank Transaction
One line from a bank statement: date, amount, description. Matching it to a Payment or Journal Entry marks that entry cleared. No ledger effect.
In detail
A Bank Transaction is one line of the bank statement inside BRAccount: date, description, deposit or withdrawal, reference number, and the bank account it belongs to. It arrives through Bank Statement Import or a bank feed, or is typed in, and it is submitted so the statement cannot be altered. It posts nothing; the money was already posted by a Payment Entry or Journal Entry, or will be when you create one from it. Its job is to be matched: when the Bank Reconciliation Tool links it to a voucher, the voucher receives the transaction's date as its clearance date and the transaction's unallocated amount drops to zero, and the two are reconciled.
Formula
Unallocated amount = Deposit or Withdrawal - Sum of amounts allocated to vouchers
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Banking > Bank Transaction > New, or import lines with Bank Statement Import.
- 02Set the Date, the Bank Account and either Deposit or Withdrawal with the description and reference.
- 03Save and Submit; nothing posts and the line locks.
- 04Open Banking > Bank Reconciliation Tool, find the line and match it to its Payment Entry or Journal Entry.
- 05After matching, the Status shows Reconciled and the voucher carries the clearance date.
When to use it
Imported by Bank Statement Import or typed in, then matched in the Bank Reconciliation Tool. Submitted transactions lock.
