Account type: Cash

Marks a GL account as physical cash in hand. Used by the Cash mode of payment and the POS.

In detail

Account type Cash marks a GL account as physical money in a drawer or safe. The Cash mode of payment maps to it, the POS Profile uses it for cash takings, and Payment Entries list it alongside bank accounts as Paid To or Paid From. Unlike a Bank type account it is never reconciled against a statement; the control is the physical count in the POS Closing Entry or Cashier Closing. Keep one Cash account per till or branch so each count matches one ledger. The demo has Cash - YFF under Cash and cash equivalents. Petty cash paid out should leave it by Payment Entry or Journal Entry, not by a note in a drawer.

Formula

Cash balance = Opening + Cash receipts - Cash payments; should equal the counted cash
