Bank Account Balance
A stored snapshot of a bank account balance on a date, usually fetched from a bank feed. No ledger effect.
In detail
A Bank Account Balance is a snapshot of what the bank says an account held on a date, stored by the bank feed plugin or entered by hand when you receive a statement. It is not a posting and it never changes the GL; it is the external figure that the book balance is measured against. The Bank Reconciliation Tool shows the latest balance here as the closing balance per bank, and the difference between it and the GL account, after items without a clearance date are excluded, is what you still have to explain. Keep a balance for each month end so the reconciliation can be reproduced later for the auditor.
Formula
Unexplained difference = Bank Account Balance - (GL balance - uncleared entries)
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Banking > Bank Account Balance > New, or let the bank feed create it.
- 02Pick the Bank Account, set the date and enter the closing balance from the statement.
- 03Save; nothing posts.
- 04Open Banking > Bank Reconciliation Tool for that account and date and compare the two closing balances.
When to use it
Mostly automatic; compare it with the GL balance in the Bank Reconciliation Statement.
Example from the demo books
The bank's reported balance on 2026-08-31 should match the bank GL account in the books.
