Monthly Distribution
Spreads a yearly budget or target across months by percentage. No ledger effect.
In detail
A Monthly Distribution is a table of twelve percentages that add up to 100, used to spread a yearly Budget across the months according to your business cycle instead of evenly. A trekking company puts the big share in Ashwin, Kartik and Chaitra, little in Shrawan. It has no ledger effect; the Budget reads it when it checks whether this month's spend is over the limit, and the Budget Variance Report shows the monthly targets beside actuals. Percentages that do not total 100 are refused. It can also be used on sales targets, so the same distribution shapes both the expense budget and the revenue plan.
Formula
Monthly budget = Annual budget x month percentage / 100; the twelve percentages total 100
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Invoicing > Monthly Distribution > New.
- 02Name it, for example Tourist Season, and pick the fiscal year.
- 03Enter a percentage for each month so the total is 100.
- 04Save, then open the Budget and choose it under Monthly Distribution.
- 05The Budget Variance Report now shows month by month targets.
When to use it
Create under Accounts > Monthly Distribution and pick it on the Budget.
