Company setup and closing

Account Closing Balance

Stored balances per account, cost center and dimension at each closing, so later years open faster. No ledger effect.

In detail

Account Closing Balance rows are a snapshot of every account's balance, per cost center and accounting dimension, written by the Period Closing Voucher at the fiscal year end. Reports for later years read their opening balances from these rows instead of adding up every GL Entry since the company began, which keeps the Balance Sheet and Trial Balance fast as the ledger grows. They are not GL Entries and post nothing; cancelling the Period Closing Voucher removes them. The Debtors - YFF row at Ashadh end 2083 shows what customers owed when the year closed. If a report's opening balance looks wrong, the closing voucher of the prior year is the first place to check.

Formula

Closing balance = Sum of GL Entry debits - credits on the account up to the year end date
