Accounting Dimension
An extra tag like Project or Branch on every GL Entry, for filtered reports. No separate posting.
In detail
An Accounting Dimension adds an extra tag such as Project, Branch or Vehicle to every GL Entry, beyond the built in cost center. Once created, the field appears on every accounting document and report filter, and the General Ledger, Trial Balance and Profit and Loss can be filtered or grouped by it. It changes nothing about the amounts; the tag rides along with the entry the document would have made anyway. A tour operator might tag each trip so the profit per trip can be read without a cost center for each. Add dimensions sparingly, because every one is another field staff must fill correctly.
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Invoicing > Accounting Dimension > New.
- 02Pick the document type to use as the tag, for example Branch or Project.
- 03Save. The field is added to invoices, payments and journal entries.
- 04Optionally set a default value per company in the Dimension Defaults table.
- 05Fill the dimension on documents, then filter the General Ledger by it.
When to use it
Create under Accounts > Accounting Dimension; the field then appears on all documents.
