Fiscal year
Also called: Financial year, आर्थिक वर्ष
Nepal's accounting year runs Shrawan 1 to Ashadh end. BRAccount names it by the two Bikram Sambat years it spans.
In detail
The fiscal year is the twelve-month span the books are measured over. In Nepal it runs from Shrawan 1 to the last day of Ashadh, so BRAccount names it by the two Bikram Sambat years it crosses, such as 2083-2084. The fiscal year fixes which Profit and Loss a voucher counts in, when income tax returns and audited statements fall due, and when the Period Closing Voucher runs. Every posting date must sit inside a fiscal year that exists and is not disabled, so a missing year blocks all entry on Shrawan 1. Income tax instalments fall at Poush, Chaitra and Ashadh end, and the annual return within three months of year end.
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Invoicing > Fiscal Year and check the list shows the current year.
- 02Before Shrawan, click New, name it by the two BS years, for example 2084-2085.
- 03Set Year Start Date to Shrawan 1 and Year End Date to Ashadh end in Gregorian dates.
- 04Add the company in the Companies table and Save.
- 05Open Financial Reports > Profit and Loss Statement and pick the year in the Fiscal Year filter to read it.
When to use it
Every posting date must fall inside an open fiscal year. Create next year's before Shrawan.
