The ledger

Posting date

The date a transaction takes effect in the ledger, which may differ from the day you typed it.

In detail

The posting date is the date the ledger treats a transaction as having happened. It decides which fiscal year, which VAT month and which Monthly Close the voucher falls into, and it is what every report filter means by From Date and To Date. A Shrawan bill entered in Bhadra should keep its Shrawan date so the Shrawan VAT return is right. BRAccount converts it to the Bikram Sambat date printed on the tax invoice. A posting date outside an open fiscal year or inside a closed Accounting Period is rejected. Backdating into a month whose VAT return is already filed creates a difference you must explain to the IRD, so finish each month before moving on.

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01On any new voucher, find Posting Date at the top; it defaults to today.
  2. 02Untick Set Posting Time if it is shown, then type the bill or receipt date.
  3. 03The BS date updates beside it; check it matches the paper bill.
  4. 04Submit. The row appears in reports filtered on that date, not on the day you typed it.
  5. 05To lock finished months, create an Accounting Period from Invoicing with the closed date range.

When to use it

Set it to the bill or receipt date. Reports filter on posting date, and BRAccount shows it in Bikram Sambat too.

Example from the demo books
