The ledger

Chart of Accounts

Also called: CoA

The tree of all accounts, grouped under five roots: Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income and Expenses. BRAccount ships an NFRS-shaped chart.

In detail

The chart of accounts is the complete tree of accounts, from the five roots at the top down to the ledgers where postings land. BRAccount ships a chart shaped after the Nepal Financial Reporting Standards, so the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss already match what an auditor expects to see. Groups such as Current Assets or Other Operating Expenses carry totals only; ledgers such as Cash or Office Rent carry postings. The tree decides where every rupee shows up on the statements, so put a new account under the right parent and the reports stay correct without any extra work. A chart with duplicate names or ledgers under the wrong root makes every report misleading.

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Accounts Setup > Chart of Accounts.
  2. 02Expand Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income or Expenses to see the groups beneath each root.
  3. 03Click a group to reveal Add Child, Edit and View Ledger buttons.
  4. 04Add a ledger only under the group whose total it belongs to, such as Vehicles under Property, Plant and Equipment.
  5. 05Use Accounts Setup > Chart of Accounts Importer to load a whole chart from a spreadsheet at setup.
  6. 06Rename Bank Account (rename me) to your real bank before go-live.

When to use it

Open it from Accounts Setup to add a ledger under the right group. Group accounts total their children and take no postings.
