Tax Category
A label on customers, suppliers or addresses that picks a tax template through Tax Rules. No ledger effect.
In detail
A Tax Category is a label you put on a Customer, Supplier or Address so that a Tax Rule can pick the right tax template without anyone thinking about it. The demo has four: Nepal VAT 13%, Nepal VAT 5%, Nepal Export and Nepal VAT Exempt. When you open a new invoice, BRAccount reads the party's category, finds the Tax Rule for that category and side (sales or purchase), and loads the template that rule names. The category itself is only a label and never touches the General Ledger. The payoff is consistency: an export customer never gets 13% VAT by mistake, and a domestic customer never gets a zero rated invoice that the VAT return would then misclassify.
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Taxes > Tax Category > New and type the name, for example Nepal Export.
- 02Save. Then go to Selling > Customer, open the customer and set Tax Category under Tax.
- 03Go to Taxes > Tax Rule > New and map the category to a template for sales and for purchase.
- 04Open Invoicing > Sales Invoice > New and pick that customer.
- 05The Taxes table loads the template from the rule; submit as usual.
When to use it
Create under Accounts > Tax Category and set it on the party; a Tax Rule maps it to a template.
Example from the demo books
A customer with category Nepal Export automatically gets the VAT 0% template.
