Sales Taxes and Charges Template
A saved tax table applied to sales, for example VAT 13% to VAT Payable. Each row credits its tax account when the invoice is submitted.
In detail
A Sales Taxes and Charges Template is a saved table of tax rows copied onto every Sales Invoice, Quotation and Sales Order. Each row names a rate, its account and whether it is charged on the net total. In the demo the template VAT 13% - YFF has one row, 13% to account 2261 - VAT Payable - YFF, so the output VAT you owe the IRD builds up in one place. Which template lands on an invoice is decided by the company default, a Tax Rule matched through the party's Tax Category, or a manual pick on the form. A wrong template posts VAT to the wrong account and misstates the VAT return.
Formula
Tax row amount = Net total x rate / 100; Grand total = Net total + sum of tax rows
Accounting entry
| Account | Debit | Credit |
|---|---|---|
| Debtors - YFF (Jivan Dahal) | Rs 36,160 | |
| Sale of Goods - YFF | Rs 32,000 | |
| 2261 - VAT Payable - YFF | Rs 4,160 |
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Taxes > Sales Taxes and Charges Template > New.
- 02Name it, pick the company and tick Is Default if most invoices should use it.
- 03Add a row: type On Net Total, account 2261 - VAT Payable - YFF, rate 13.
- 04Save. The template is a master, so nothing posts yet.
- 05Open Invoicing > Sales Invoice > New and confirm the Taxes table shows the row.
- 06Submit the invoice. The entry below posts and the VAT row credits VAT Payable.
When to use it
Create under Accounts > Sales Taxes and Charges Template; mark one default so every Sales Invoice picks it up.
Example from the demo books
VAT 13% on ACC-SINV-2026-00004 adds Rs 4,160 to Rs 32,000, credited to VAT Payable.
