Asset Shift Allocation

Changes how many shifts a machine runs per period, scaling its depreciation. It changes future Depreciation Entries.

In detail

An Asset Shift Allocation changes how many shifts a machine is treated as running in each depreciation period, so that depreciation follows actual use. Each row in the allocation pairs a schedule date with a shift name from Asset Shift Factor; a Double shift row with factor 2 doubles that period's depreciation, and the remaining rows are recalculated so the total still equals cost less salvage. Submitting it rebuilds the Asset Depreciation Schedule and changes the amounts of future Depreciation Entries; it does not post anything itself. It is meant for Plant and Machinery and makes no sense for furniture or vehicles.

Formula

Period depreciation = Base straight line amount x shift factor; the schedule total stays at Cost - Salvage value

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Assets > Asset Shift Factor and confirm factors exist, for example Single 1, Double 2.
  2. 02Go to Assets > Asset Shift Allocation > New and pick the asset and finance book.
  3. 03The schedule rows load; change the Shift on the months that ran extra shifts.
  4. 04Check that the recalculated total still equals cost less salvage value.
  5. 05Submit. The Asset Depreciation Schedule is rebuilt and future entries use the new amounts.

When to use it

Create under Assets > Asset Shift Allocation for shift based assets. Submitted allocations lock.

Example from the demo books

Run a generator in double shift for Falgun, doubling that month's depreciation.
