Nepal tax and IRD

Rupee

Also called: NPR, Rs, रु

Nepal's currency and the books' base currency. Amounts are grouped Nepali style: lakh and crore.

In detail

The Nepalese rupee, written NPR, Rs or रु and divided into 100 paisa, is the base currency of the books: every GL Entry, report and tax filing is in it. Amounts are grouped the South Asian way, in lakhs and crores: Rs 1,00,000 is one lakh and Rs 1,00,00,000 is one crore, so Rs 25,68,160 reads twenty-five lakh sixty-eight thousand one hundred sixty. BRAccount formats numbers this way when the company number format is set to lakh grouping. A foreign-currency invoice is converted at the exchange rate on the document and posted in rupees, with any later difference going to Foreign Exchange Gain or Loss. Rounded invoices send the paisa difference to the Round Off account.

Formula

Rs 1 lakh = Rs 1,00,000; Rs 1 crore = Rs 1,00,00,000; foreign amount x exchange rate = rupee amount posted.

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Accounts Setup > Company and confirm Default Currency is NPR.
  2. 02Open System Settings from the search bar and set Number Format to the lakh grouping style with two decimals.
  3. 03For a foreign invoice, set Currency on the Sales Invoice and the Exchange Rate fills from Currency Exchange.
  4. 04Submit. The GL rows post in rupees at that rate; the invoice prints in the foreign currency.
  5. 05Read any report; every figure is in NPR with lakh and crore grouping.

When to use it

All reports are in NPR; foreign-currency invoices convert at the Currency Exchange rate.
