Nepal tax and IRD

Sales Book

Also called: बिक्री खाता

The IRD-prescribed register of every sale: date, invoice number, buyer PAN, taxable and exempt amounts, VAT.

In detail

The Sales Book, बिक्री खाता, is the register of every sale the IRD prescribes for a VAT-registered business, kept month by month in the Nepali calendar. Each row shows the date, invoice number, buyer name and PAN, the total, and the amount split into exempt, zero-rated, five percent and thirteen percent taxable values with the VAT on each. Its totals are the sales side of the VAT Return, and an inspector compares it line by line with CBMS. BRAccount builds it from submitted Sales Invoices and credit notes; it must be printable for six years. A sale posted by Journal Entry instead of Sales Invoice is missing from it, and that is a finding.

Formula

Sales Book output VAT for the month = Sum over invoices of (13% taxable value x 13% + 5% taxable value x 5%) - VAT on credit notes.

How to record it in BRAccount

  1. 01Go to Nepal IRD > Sales Book.
  2. 02Set Company and the Nepali month, for example Bhadra 2083, and run the report.
  3. 03Check each row has a buyer PAN where the buyer is a business and that credit notes show as negatives.
  4. 04Read the column totals; the taxable and VAT totals must equal the output side of the VAT Return.
  5. 05Use Menu > Export to save a copy, print it for the tax file and keep it six years.

When to use it

Print it monthly for the VAT return and keep it six years.
