Income
Also called: Revenue, Turnover
The top income group of the Profit and Loss statement. No postings; it totals Revenue from Contracts with Customers and Other Income.
In detail
Income is the root group of the upper half of the Profit and Loss statement: all the money the business earned in the period before any cost is deducted. It takes no postings; Sales Invoices credit a ledger under Revenue from Contracts with Customers, bank interest, rent or disposal gains credit a ledger under Other Income, and the group totals them. VAT is never part of Income: the 13 percent on each invoice goes to VAT Payable, so a Rs 36,160 invoice adds only Rs 32,000 here. The IRD compares the annual return with the monthly VAT returns and the Sales Book, so every sale must come through a Sales Invoice that syncs to the CBMS.
Formula
Income = Revenue from Contracts with Customers + Other Income, all excluding VAT
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Accounts Setup > Chart of Accounts and expand Income.
- 02Click a ledger such as Sale of Goods to open its General Ledger.
- 03Open Financial Reports > Profit and Loss Statement, set the fiscal year or month, and read the Income total.
- 04Reconcile the total with Nepal IRD > Sales Book for the same Nepali months.
- 05Investigate any sale that reached the ledger without a Sales Invoice.
When to use it
Never post here. Sales Invoices use Sale of Goods or Rendering of Services; bank interest uses Interest Income.
