Non-Current Assets
Also called: Fixed and long-term assets
A group, no postings. It totals assets kept for more than one year: Property, Plant and Equipment, Right-of-Use Assets, Intangible Assets, Capital Work in Progress and long-term investments.
In detail
Non-Current Assets, numbered 1100, is the group for everything the business expects to hold for more than one year. It totals Property, Plant and Equipment, Right-of-Use Assets, Investment Property, Intangible Assets, Capital Work in Progress, the specialised accounts for biological, exploration and joint-venture assets, the long-term financial investments, long-term receivables and Deferred Tax Assets. The split from Current Assets matters because a bank or investor reads the two totals to judge whether the business can pay its bills over the next year; a loan officer wants current assets to cover current liabilities. Posting a short-term item here, or a laptop under Current Assets, distorts that reading without unbalancing anything.
Formula
Non-Current Assets = PPE net of depreciation + Right-of-Use + Investment Property + Intangibles + CWIP + long-term investments + long-term receivables + Deferred Tax Assets.
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Accounts Setup > Chart of Accounts and expand Assets > Non-Current Assets.
- 02Read its children; each is either a sub-group such as Property, Plant and Equipment or a ledger such as Investment Property.
- 03Open Financial Reports > Balance Sheet; the Non-Current Assets subtotal shows Rs 1,40,000 less depreciation in the demo.
- 04To add a long-term asset, pick the right child ledger on a Purchase Invoice or Asset record.
- 05Never pick Non-Current Assets itself; the account picker lists it as a group and rejects postings.
When to use it
Do not post here. Pick a child account such as Office Equipment on an Asset, or Software on a Purchase Invoice.
Example from the demo books
The demo books show Non-Current Assets of Rs 1,40,000 before depreciation: chairs Rs 40,000 under Furniture and Fixtures plus the Dell laptop Rs 1,00,000.
