Miscellaneous Expenses
Also called: Sundry Expenses, General Expenses
Small costs that fit no other account, such as a padlock, a mouse or a puja offering, on the Profit and Loss statement.
In detail
Miscellaneous Expenses is the ledger for small, one-off costs that fit no other heading: a padlock, a printer cable, a courier charge, a municipal fee. It is also the account the demo uses as the expense side of provisions where no better ledger exists. The chart contains two ledgers with this exact name under Other Operating Expenses, a leftover of merging two templates; both work, but postings should go to one of them and the other should be left empty or disabled so the Profit and Loss does not show two sundry lines. If the same kind of cost appears every month, give it a ledger of its own; auditors and the IRD look hardest at a large sundry balance.
Formula
Miscellaneous Expenses for the period = Sum of small sundry vouchers that match no other ledger
Accounting entry
| Account | Debit | Credit |
|---|---|---|
| Miscellaneous Expenses | Rs 2,500 | |
| Cash | Rs 2,500 |
How to record it in BRAccount
- 01Go to Accounts Setup > Chart of Accounts, expand Other Operating Expenses, and pick which Miscellaneous Expenses ledger to use.
- 02Disable the other duplicate from its account form so nobody posts to it by mistake.
- 03Go to Invoicing > Journal Entry > New, debit Miscellaneous Expenses and credit Cash for the voucher.
- 04Attach the shop bill and submit. The entry below posts.
- 05Review the ledger monthly; move any recurring cost to its own account.
When to use it
Post by Journal Entry or Payment Entry only when nothing else fits. The chart has two accounts with this name; merge them or use only one.
